I have lived where I live too long because I checked the morning forecast and said out loud "-23C with wind chill, hell we don't even need to put the kid in snow pants today if we don't want." This is not a reasonable reaction and to be clear putting the kid in appropriate gear. But the point is I'm used to January being below -25, -30, and it means I am super sympathetic to everyone dealing with the polar vortex. Because I am used to stupid temperatures and think it sucks. So if you aren't used to -40 and worse, I cannot even imagine how you feel.

The weather here is only in the single (positive!) digits, and I'm froze. I cannot imagine -40 for the life of me.

so it ain't fun but after -25 it is all just fucking cold, you just get frostbite quicker. You get used to the dressing in layers, and I crochet so there are a million scarves around the house and then you complain and just go about your day. Our kid has yet to have a school day cancelled due to cold, but about -48 is the worst we've ever had.
